OkiTalkie Privacy Policy
OkiTalkie is an app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It listens during a session you start and gives you a quiet tap on that same device, your iPhone or your Apple Watch, when you say a filler word like “um” or “uh”. This policy explains what the app hears, what it keeps, and what it sends.
The short version
- OkiTalkie does not record audio and does not transcribe what you say.
- Sound is analyzed in real time, in your device's memory, and discarded within a few seconds.
- The microphone is only on during a session you start, or while you set up your voiceprint, and the app shows when it's listening.
- Your session history and filler-word statistics are stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Your voiceprint (optional) is stored only on your iPhone and Apple Watch and is not sent to any server or third party.
- No ads. Your data is not sold or shared for advertising.
Who is responsible
OkiTalkie is developed by Viktor Zinchenko, a sole proprietor registered in Poland (“the developer”).
Address: ul. Księcia Witolda 49/15, 50-202 Wrocław, Poland
Email: team@okitalkie.com
The developer is the data controller only for the limited personal data described in this policy: emails you send to the developer, subscription data (RevenueCat), usage statistics (TelemetryDeck) and this website's technical logs and visit statistics (Cloudflare). Your sessions, statistics and voiceprint are stored on your devices, and the developer has no access to them.
If you send an email, your address and message are used only to reply to you, and are deleted when they are no longer needed for that.
What the app hears
During a session, OkiTalkie uses the microphone of your iPhone or your Apple Watch.
- Audio is processed on your device to detect filler sounds.
- Only the last few seconds of conversation are held in memory, and are then discarded.
- No audio is saved to storage, recorded, transcribed into text, or sent from your device.
- The outputs of the analysis are numbers: when a filler occurred, an estimate of how many words were spoken, and, in “Only me” mode, how much of the conversation was you speaking. They are worked out from the sound alone, without recognizing any words.
- The microphone is active only during a session you started manually, or while you set up your voiceprint, and the app shows a listening indicator while the microphone is on. A session ends when you stop it, or automatically after 60 minutes.
The app does not analyze the meaning of what is said, and it does not assess emotions, stress, confidence or tone of voice.
Whose speech is counted
OkiTalkie has two modes. The app shows which one is on.
- Everyone (the default until you set up your voice): the app counts filler sounds from anyone speaking near the device. It does not record audio or text, does not transcribe, and does not tell voices apart. The results are filler counts and an estimated word count; your score and progress are calculated from them.
- Only me (available after you create a voiceprint): the app counts only your own fillers and shows how much of the conversation was you speaking. To tell your voice apart, it briefly computes a numeric sample of whoever is speaking and compares it with your voiceprint. For anyone other than you, this sample exists only in memory for a few seconds, is used for this single comparison, and is then discarded. It is not stored, logged, sent to any server or third party, or linked to anyone. Their speech is not analyzed for fillers.
You can set up your voice whenever it suits you (it takes 15 seconds of reading a short text aloud in a quiet place) and switch modes in the app.
If you use OkiTalkie around other people, it's a good idea to let them know. A simple line works: “My watch vibrates when I say ‘um’. It doesn't record what anyone says.”
Your voiceprint (optional)
To recognize your voice among others, you can create a voiceprint. You'll be asked for explicit consent on a separate screen before it is created, and you can use the app without one.
- What it is: a short list of numbers (a mathematical vector) computed on your device from 15 seconds of your speech. That speech is held only in your device's memory, used only for this calculation, and deleted right after; it is not saved to storage or sent from your device. The voiceprint itself is not a recording and does not contain what you said.
- Where it lives: only on your iPhone and your Apple Watch. It may be transferred between your own paired iPhone and Apple Watch over Apple's encrypted device-to-device connection. It is not sent to any server or third party, and it is excluded from iCloud and device backups.
- What it's used for: only to tell your voice apart from other voices during a session. This lets the app count only your fillers and show your share of the conversation.
- How long it is kept: until you delete it. You can delete it in Settings → Voiceprint → Delete. It is also deleted when you delete the app.
Data stored on your device
- Session history: date, duration, session type, and the name you give a session (if any).
- Session statistics: filler counts and timing, estimated word count, your score, your share of the conversation (in “Only me” mode), and your progress over time.
- App settings and preferences.
This data is stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch and may be transferred between them. It is not sent to the developer. Like other app data, it may be included in your iPhone or iCloud backups under Apple's terms. The voiceprint is the exception and is not included in backups. Deleting the app deletes this data from the device.
This website
okitalkie.com uses no advertising or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set a cookie needed to protect the site from bots. It is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which processes visitors' IP addresses in technical logs to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as a fallback. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying visitors.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple. The developer does not see your payment details. Apple shares only what is needed to unlock your subscription.
OkiTalkie uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives a random app user ID not linked to your name or email, your purchase history and basic technical data such as device type, app version and IP address. It does not receive your audio, statistics or voiceprint. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
Analytics and crash reports
OkiTalkie uses TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH, Germany), a privacy-focused analytics service, to count app events such as “session started”. Identifiers are hashed on your device before they are sent, TelemetryDeck does not store IP addresses, and the data it receives is not linked to your identity.
If you have enabled “Share with App Developers” in your iPhone settings, Apple may share anonymous crash reports with the developer. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
